Aalto Designer and Architect
Alvar Aalto is one of the most well-known names in Nordic design. Aalto's vision of design was that a good object should be part of everyday life and his ideas led him to a personal interpretation of functionalism.
As early as the 1930s, Aalto's furniture design was shown in an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The most famous of his objects is the Aalto vase, also called the Savoy vase, which was first seen at the World's Fair in Paris. Today, his creations are as popular as ever and his innovative furniture is produced and distributed by Artek, a company founded by Alvar and Aino Aalto, Maire Gullichsen, and Nils Hahlin in 1935.
